Mitchell Wins Last Race of 2009 British Championship Season

Round 9 ACU British MMX Quad Championship
Sunday 20th September, 2009
Culham

John Mitchell wrapped up final race of the 2009 ACU British MMX Quad Championship with a sensational victory on board his ATV World Yamaha YFZ450R. ATV World’s Leon Beda took an excellent third place in race one making it a fantastic finish for the team at the Culham Motocross circuit.

The two day event had already seen exciting action from the youth championships (see report on ATV World website for Tyler Soar) and with clear skies and sunshine, the large crowd in attendance were in for a great days racing. Qualifying went well for team riders Leon Beda who took second fastest and John Mitchell who qualified fourth with just over 0.5 second difference between the top four.

Race one didn’t start well for John Mitchell as he made a mistake off the start leaving him near the back of the field, Leon however, got right up to third and began to close in behind a battling Paul Winrow and Paul Holmes in front. Meanwhile John was working his way from tenth and worked his way up to fifth. Leon pushed hard and looked to have stolen it from the battling Pauls but was unable to maintain the position and finished a superb third place. Ricky Tordoff had a good performance, finishing in ninth place while Dean Thompson suffered technical problems and had to retire. Josh Barrett took 20th place and continues to make good progress showing maturity beyond his years.

On board his ATV World Yamaha development YFZ450R, John Mitchell had a good start making fourth from the start. Unfortunately his kill switch pulled out and he fell back to ninth. This made it an almost impossible task but the ever resilient John was determined to finish the season on a high and dug deep. Battling with Stef Murphy, John managed to make the pass and worked his way incredibly into first place with a gap of 11 seconds as he took the final race of the season. Leon, suffering from some seriously painful blisters did exceptionally well to fend off fellow ATV World Yamaha rider Ricky Tordoff to 10th and 11th. Dean Thompson rode well and secured 15th place while Josh Barrett finished in 19th.

Speaking after the final race, John Mitchell said “Since I missed a number of events due to my shoulder injury sustained in round two, the team have focused the attention on developing the ATV World Yamaha YFZ450R. No other team in the UK are putting anything like the time, experience and development that ATV World is doing with this quad. Its improvements are now showing on the race track as I have secured a number of wins and it’s getting better all the time. Thanks to all the guys at ATV World who have helped me get to the podium on such an exciting new machine for 2010.”
