ACU British MMX Quad Championship
Round Six at Dean Moor, Cumbria

ATV World Yamaha rider John Mitchell returned to the ACU British MMX Quad Championships on Sunday 19th July after a long and painful 10 weeks recovery following the shoulder injury that he sustained in round two.

The Deanmoor track had been well prepared, with a hardpack surface guaranteeing a fast pace and John was keen to be riding his Yamaha YFZ450 after a successful overall win at the Scottish Championships last week.   John took a steady pace in race one, testing how far he could push with his shoulder still making for an uncomfortable ride. John settled for 11th place, aware how far he could push himself for race two.

It was the worst possible start in race two as John and fellow ATV World Yamaha team rider Dean Thompson brushed together from the start line.  From the very back, John began working his way through, pushing hard he increased his pace and pushed through with an incredible ride to fourth place.

John reflected after the race; “It’s been fantastic to get back to a competitive level of racing. I never realised just how much this injury had affected me both physically and mentally. I’m now feeling fully confident in my riding ability. I was particularly happy with my pace in race two today, this Yamaha YFZ450 has been superb and seems to just get better!”

Despite Dean Thompson having a difficult start in race two, he was very happy overall with a 12th place in race one and a superb ride in race two, finishing in 11th place from 24th after brushing together with John.  Dean has been showing his best form recently and is on a roll of great results from the British and Ulster Championships. He aims to continue building on these results with a solid performance at the Ulster Championship next weekend.
