Tyler Closes Down On Championship Title
It was business as usual for Norfolks ATV World Youth quad cross rider Tyler Soar 16 at the ACU North East quad cross championships where he scored a maximum 90 points on Saturday in round 8 of the championship held at Rowley, County Durham.
With blistering pace and smooth lines he showed his future prospect as a professional rider with his best race being race 2 where he finished a massive 13 seconds ahead.
His wins left him with an increased points lead to take him in to round 9 held on the Sunday, which he was going to need as in race one on the Sunday a rider who panic braked left Tyler nowhere to go but over the top of his rear wheels, sending Tyler and his bike flying over on its side.
Tyler visibly shaken could only watch the pack disappear as he franticly rited his machine and desperately tried get it restarted.
His kicks were in vain it the engine was flooded and as he watched the championship lead disappearing, he knew couldn't afford a DNF (did not finish) so with this in mind he pushed as hard as he could and bump started his bike to everyone's relief including his own.
He was nearly a lap down but chased the pack and finished a gallant 6th.
His tumble had caused him a damaged wrist so it was decided not to take any undue risks with his final two races and play safe and was instructed to finish top three if possible to help retain his points tally.
This he did by finishing the day with a third and a second giving him an overall third place, meaning that his points lead him in to the final round at the end of September with him needing only to finish each of the three races to take the championship for 2009 .
