Tyler takes 2nd Overall in British Championship

This weekend saw Norfolk’s ATV World Youth rider Tyler Soar campaign round 4 and final round of the ACU British youth quad cross championships held at Culham Moto Park Oxford.

Tyler needed two firsts with the leader George Callaway to come third in at least one race for Tyler to take the title. Tyler had slipped on points by a run of bad luck at the previous round three at Whitehaven Cumbria, so he had everything to work for. Tyler was fired up for the first race with the determined attitude that has seen him win more first place trophies than any other of his counterparts in any of the other championships he is contesting.

The gate dropped for race one and Tyler was third in to the first corner with his main target George Callaway getting the holeshot and getting a clear run, Tyler knew it was going to be hard work on a track that had rutted badly and had become a virtual one line course, but he pushed on with the skilful and precise riding which has become his trademark. After rounding a bend out of view of the anxious crowd the three disappeared with only two emerging Callaway had beached his quad on a berm, leaving just Tyler and the now leader David Forrest to fight it out. Tyler gradually drew Forrest in knowing with the track in the state it was one wrong move could bring him to the same fate as Callaway.

With three minutes on the clock Tyler knew it was time to strike and with Callaway now in fourth place it couldn't have been better, Forrest with Tyler right on his back wheels rounded a deep sweeping berm. Tyler’s nearside front wheel dug in and caused his track rod end to snap clean in half, instantly putting a stop to his race. A dejected Tyler with tears in his eyes walked away from his machine to be consoled by his father Jed.

A second overall in the championship was all that could be achieved by getting top three in the final race of the day, which is exactly what he did by getting a second place behind Scotland’s Connor Smith, Tyler favouring to ride a safe race to avoid a repeat of the previous race luck. This gives Tyler a second overall in the four round British ACU 250cc Open Youth Quad Cross Championship.

Tyler's next outing is this coming weekend where he campaigns round nine and the final round of the ACU North East Championship which he leads by 26 points.
